“That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”
John 17:21-23
Thought
Mother Teresa once said "I can do things you cannot, you can do things I cannot; together we can do great things." Jesus understood the importance of unity, which explains why he prayed for unity amongst his followers. From the beginning of time, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit worked as one unit (Genesis 1). Unity defines who God is and it should define who we are. Chaos is the lack of unity and since God is not the author of confusion (1 Corinthians 14:33), we should do everything in our power to strive to live in peace (Romans 12:18). When we are with one accord, nothing can stop us.
Prayer
Most Gracious and Heavenly Father, thank you for giving us the perfect example of unity. Help us to lay down our selfish ambitions and our personal agendas. Help us to not think more highly of ourselves than we ought to think, but in perfect submission, help us to yield to your will. Make us one so that we may be more effective witnesses; we will allow the Holy Spirit to have free reign in our ministries; and will we be empowered to do great feats for the kingdom! In Jesus Name, Amen.
