How can I pay for college? What college is best for me? What are the pros/cons of a four-year university versus a junior college? What grades affect college admissions? If any of these questions apply to you, join us on June 18, 2016 for Project College 2016. This one-day seminar will prove to be beneficial for those interested in college, preparing to enter college, and in college. The goal of the seminar is to provide attendees (high school and college students) with information that would allow them to be more successful in their college preparation, search, admission and experience. Kenyatta Shamburger, Asst. Dean of Students & Director of Multicultural Student Affairs at Iowa State University, will facilitate the seminar along with representatives from local universities and junior colleges. Workshop Facilitators
Kenyatta Shamburger | Multi-Cultural Student Affairs
Kenyatta N. Shamburger, is the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Multicultural Student Affairs at Iowa State University. In this role, he provides administrative leadership for developing and implementing programs and policies for the Office of Multicultural Student Affairs (MSA) which serves as a primary resource for Iowa State University students who self-identify as African American, Asian American, Latina/o American, Native American and/or multiracial. This is done in support of department, division and university missions regarding diversity, academic standards and recruitment and retention of a diverse student population. Kenyatta serves as the chairperson of the Multicultural Student Services Coordinating Team and co-chairperson of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Committee.
A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Kenyatta is a graduate of Northeastern University, Boston, MA with a degree in Political Science and a dual minor in Psychology and African American Studies. He also holds a Master’s Degree in Leadership and Administration. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration. Kenyatta will facilitate the Grades and FERPA Workshop.
Danielle Benjamin Powell
Danielle B. Powell serves as Program Manager of Leadership 18, an alliance of Chief Executive Officers (CEOs) responsible for leading some of the country’s largest and most well respected charities, non-profits and faith-based organizations. Member organizations serve over 87 million people annually and represent $59 billion in total revenue. Powell brings over a decade of strategic communications expertise informed by her work with various issue advocacy and non-profit organizations.
The effectiveness of Leadership 18 is rooted in the personal engagement of its CEO-only membership. Executive Committee members are the CEOs of Alliance for Strong Families and Communities, American Red Cross, Girl Scouts of the USA, Goodwill Industries International, Inc., National Council on Aging and United Way Worldwide. The alliance focuses on advocacy, CEO learning, and program and research collaboration.
Powell holds a master in professional studies in Public Relations and Corporate Communications from Georgetown University and a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She grew up in a military family and serves as a church leader. Danielle will facilitate the "The Real World" Workshop.

Sia Knight’s story is one of triumph in the face of adversity and achievement against all odds. This former teacher, counselor and administrator has transcended humble beginnings to become an educational specialist in one of the largest school divisions in the country.
For over 20 years, Sia Knight has been using her no-nonsense style to educate and empower hundreds of students, parents and fellow educators.
Sia Knight is a knowledgeable and experienced Independent College Counselor who brings a no-nonsense approach to the college admissions process. Sia will facilitate the Financial Planning Workshop.
Winferd Stevens
Winferd Stevens is the Coordinator for Disability Services at the Fredericksburg Campus of Germanna Community College. Win will facilitate the College Search Workshop.
