Lesson 3: Heirs of the Kingdom
Questions:
- The book of James often reflects Jesus’ sermon in Luke 6:17-49. In light of Luke 6:20-21, what is the context and overall message of James 2:5-6?
- The ruling class was persecuting James’ readers for their beliefs. What does James say about the rich (2:7)? Why is it wrong to favor then, even if they provide funding for the church?
Lesson 4: Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Christ
Questions:
- What one thing can we do that will alter the rest of our actions (2:8)? How is this law both simple and complex, and what happens when we fail to keep it (2:9)?
- While we should uphold the royal law, by what law should we ultimately live (2:12)?
- In what ways is judgement, based upon the Old Testament law, without mercy? How does mercy triumph over judgement (2:13)?
Preparation
God is not a respecter of person, but we often give more respect to those that have over those that have not. We forget that the Word tells us what we do to the least, it’s as we do unto God. How do you handle those that don’t look, smell, or act like you? Do you receive them as Christ received you? Let’s check our motives and intentions and make sure that the line up with God’s Word.
