Lesson 4: An Alternative (James 4:11-12)
Questions:
- What’s at stake when we “speak evil” of others (4:11)?
- The “law” that James references in 4:11 is the “royal law,” defined in James 2:8 through a quote of Leviticus 19:18. What does it mean to only be a “judge” of the law, considering the larger context of James’ ideas about the law?
- Why is God opposed to people judging others (4:12)? What role do we attempt to play when doing so?
- Rather than judging, what’s our obligation to other people (1:27)?
Preparation
Verses 1-10 emphasized the importance of conflict management in the church. How have you been able to implement these recommendations to “live peaceably with all men?”
