Lesson 2: Be Gracious Unto Me (Psalm 6)
Questions:
- Why does the psalmist ask God here not to rebuke or discipline him? (6:1)
- What does the psalmist appeal to when he asks God to save him (6:4)? How would saving the psalmist benefit from God’s “steadfast love?”
- What are some features of God’s steadfast love?
Preparation
Psalm 6 is a psalm of lament. These types of psalms display raw honesty as the psalmist often complain to God. These complaints rise out of suffering due to external forces (enemies or oppressors) or internal forces (sickness or physical suffering). In the midst of heartache and sorrow, who do you turn to? Does your sorrow change to praise or do you remain stuck in your sorrow? Psalm 6 shows us the way out of the malaise and into the favor of God.
