Lesson 5: Let Them Be Put To Shame? (Psalm 83)
Questions:
- What would cause the psalmist to think God was silent?
- Have you ever felt like God was not acting or offering direction when you wanted Him to? How did you respond?
- The psalmist describes how Israel’s enemies are conspiring against them. How does he describe these enemies and their intentions?
Preparation
Psalm 83 is an imprecatory psalm – the psalmist calls for God to judge his enemies. In Biblical times, for Israel, defeating a nation was equivalent to defeating their god. Victory would show other nations that the Lord was truly God. Today, God has displayed victory over sin and death through Christ’s death and resurrection. In light of Christ’s victory, how can we lovingly help our “enemies” recognize God?
