Lesson 7: The King of Glory Comes In (Psalm 24)
Questions:
- What are the requirements of entering God’s temple? What does it mean to have “clean hands and a pure heart?”
- Why does this psalm emphasize the importance of going to the temple? What is the relationship between ascending the “hill of the Lord” and seeking the face of God?
- How has Christ’s work as the “great high priest” made it possible for us to enter into God’s presence (see Hebrews 9:11-14)?
- How does the psalmist describe God in verses 7-10? What was the effect for the ancient Israelites of seeing a representation of God’s presence entering the temple?
Preparation
Psalm 24 is a temple entry psalm that spells out the requirements for entering God’s Temple. Do you “enter into HIs gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise” (Psalm 100:4)? Or do you take God’s presence for granted as you enter into your respective houses of worship? Jesus’ death on Calvary gave us direct access to God. This psalm provides us with a blueprint on how to approach the throne of God.
