First Lady
a poem by Maxine Yvonne Coleman, USA
Our first lady, we love you with all our hearts,
what do we say, where do we start?
You are so natural at being our First Lady,
when it's time to help out you say "yes," never no or even maybe.
You tell us that you are just a phone call away,
and when you speak, you prayerfully know what to say.
You are the first to say, "Let's take a moment to pray,"
no matter if it's morning, night or mid-day.
You put so much emotion in all the songs that you sing,
and you always make time for the little things.
I know we joke with you because you don't like to be called "First Lady,"
but you are our Pastor's wife and we know you pray to God daily.
You are right by our Pastor's side; come what may,
even though you know this job comes with no pay.
First Ladies, Barbara Bush, Laura Bush, Hilary Clinton, and Michelle Obama have nothing on you,
because you demonstrate the character of Jesus in everything you do.
So Happy Birthday and First Lady's Day,
because you too are loved and we'll never send wish away.
